I wonder about the age limits you might have created for these categories? (Referencing your comment that older people might be harder to hypnotize than children)
My friend Jackie is older than I (we are in our 80s and are both practicing hypnotherapists). So we have been frequently “invited” to entertain our peers. You know: the church groups, the diabetics, the knitters, the local weight losers, old-age homes, etc. We make sure everyone in the room has an experience. And we never have a problem. However, we do occasionally hear “well I wasn’t really hypnotized” …(chuckle)
No, but the universe does have limits. Try running through a wall. I know you can imagine doing that but just for fun try it. The human body can only do what it has the blueprint to do, so can the mind.
Are older people harder to hypnotisz? I am a budding hypnotist, and with the little experience that I have, I have found it is definitely easier to hypnotize children. I have never not been able to hypnotize the ‘grown ups’ but some do require a little more time and tactics! Mainly those who appear to be mistrusting and self protective ..hence I think the analyzing?!!
If I recall correctly I seem to recall Richard Bandler claiming to have woken a person from a coma with hypnosis. Also James Ramsey of Ultra Depth claims to use the coma state to heal people of many different issues. Just food for thought.
Hi I am very curious & have some questions about when you are hypnotizing someone. Can these things help or hider the proses, (sound ” ie music or sound effects”) (smell) (coulor) (light) (drugs) (alcohol) (position “ie sitting, standing or lying”)? How long dose a trans last or how long is safe? Can a trans be extended & will someone come out if just left in a trans? Thanks I do enjoy your honest stile.
Re coma states and various degrees of hypnosis I seem to remember dave ellman mentioning this deep hypnotic state in his book .
States so deep people could not be aroused from until he discovered a method himself, simply telling client unless they awoke they would be unable to enjoy this state ever again ,if I remember correctly.
But there was lots in his book which sounded incredible, such as how he taught thousands of doctors hypnosis .
One of my videos on YouTube is of the watch induction, lots of views and a couple of comments so plenty of people like the old… I meant the induction not me… lol
Dear Jon.
I very much enjoy your thoughts, hints, books and advice.
I started out 20 years ago, at the age of 15 playing jazz-tenorsaxophone. I was totally in love with the music and the instrument, so after leaving school, it became my living for many years.
- Then I had children and family, and as a free-lance musician it was a very hard, difficult (and unhealthy) way to make a responsable living. I ended up in deep depression. Though I was well covered by doctors and terapists, what really healed me, was that I (in my desperation) found self-hypnosis. It got to me back on my feet, and I knew that I had found a new path. This spring I finished a good and very “hands-on” education in Denmark as a hypnotist/hypno-therapist.
I feel the same joy, flow, love and exitment as when I started playing music. It has changed my life, and I feel that I found my lifes .2nd. endevour…
Best Wishes
Kasper
In the free how to learn hypnosis training video entitled, How to do hypnosis without trance; Paul wanted to experience a stage hypnosis phenomenon on a one day seminar with me, the hypnotist Jonathan Chase. And as I wanted to demonstrate the so called Erickson handshake as demonstrated often by people like Richard Bandler, The two mixed together very well. There is nothing going on here other than what you see. No loops, no ladders and no claims to have developed what is nothing more than the art of suggestion.
He did go into trance but only because I also wanted to display that trance is the resulting symptom of hypnosis and suggestion. Not the hypnosis itself.

Jonathan, Are you suggesting the communicating to the subconscious mind has limits?

Age has nothing to do with it. Thinking of yourself as “A budding hypnotist” does.

There’s lots that Bandler claims yes, you are right there.

You know the simple answer to ALL your questions is, yes.
A trance lasts as long as it lasts but not forever
