Self hypnosis – can I hypnotise myself? No!

In 1902 Boudoiun said there is no such thing as hypnosis. He was wrong. Both as an art and as a mental process hypnosis takes place, however self hypnosis is another thing altogether. Although without doubt there is such a thing as self suggestion self hypnosis is just not possible based on the truth that hypnosis describes a state of mind created by someone else called a hypnotist.

    Hi Jon,

I bought “Don’t Look in His Eyes” from Amazon.co.uk and had it shipped to my home in the US. It arrived last night and you kept me up until nearly 2 AM reading, thank you very much! LOVED the book. Love your writing style. It made everything completely accessible and filled my head with many ideas and many more questions.

Do any of your videos address your thoughts on intended covert or conversational hypnosis (that is, hypnosis done on purpose to an unsuspecting hypnotee without his or her knowledge?) Your book gave great examples of unintentional hypnosis… like a parent scaring a child into not touching a hot stove. What about politicians, teachers and salespeople intentionally using hypnosis to gain compliance without the other person’s knowledge? A dicey topic, I know, but you don’t seem to be the type of person who shys away from dicey topics!

  8. Hi Jon

I too loves your down to earth videos, great idea. And you are a maverick:)

There seems to be a tendency towards hypnosis getting more and more complex, and I love how you keep it simple.

  9. Hi Jon

Thank you for clarifying the self-hypnosis issue. I went on to a self-hypnosis course many years ago. I think they mainly taught relaxation.

Hi Jon. Getting into your style with ease and enthusiasm. Invested in your book too from Amazon, “Dont look in his eyes”. Dont you think; that people over complicate tings to justify what they do? Like a Civil Servant creates new rules and hoops to jump through to justify and keep thier own jobs.

Clarity is what is missing in this world. Clarity of thought and action to reach a desired goal. You tipify that approach and are to be congratulated. Looked at many other “learning opportunities” about hypnosis, but they pale against your approach. Your eager and appretiative student. Tony

Posted this question in another section, perhaps this is better suited here…

You say ‘if you are listening to a recording you are not hypnotising yourself, you are being hypnotised’.

So if hypnosis is achievable through a recording, is it possible therefore, as a hypnotist, to record your own hypnotic induction, lay down anchors as post-hypnotic suggestions, and play it to yourself!

As I become more knowledeable in hypnosis through reading your materials and studying various other competent hypnotists and teachers etc, I really can’t wait to be able to put it into practice and give these hypnotic gifts to people. But wouldn’t it be great if one could accelerate that process through one’s own suggestions?!

Sure, there’s no substitute for getting zapped one on one. But if it’s possible to get zapped via a recording, why not your own? I’d like to hear your thoughts on that.
